Found a "W" in a junkyard

The guy at the desk said it was a 409. The number is 3857655 which seems to be a 348 truck and replacement. There is notches in the block and no numbers stamped in the front. But I can't find anything on the heads #3758021 and 3788555 the date codes are both in '61. They look like the smaller port. Does anybody have any info on the heads? I've been hunting the salvage yards looking for a 409 block, mine is cracked! After the machine shop cleaned it up low and behold a freeze crack on each side right below the deck . I guess it can be fixed though, anyone have any luck with that?

Hey 'Wagon,
You might try boring out your 655 block to std 409. I had a 655 that was punched out to std 409. I never had any problems with it. I would have your block sonic checked first but the chances are good. Plus, your 655 block has the "X" cast in the front of it, so it looks like a 409. Good luck!
