Well this washer dryer relocate project sure did explode into somewhat of remodel that wasn't really the plan. Funny how things get out of control.
We have this hip wall between the kitchen and living room and discussion of removing it to open up the floor plan has now started.





Can't thank my oldest son enough for his expertise.

Now to have to retile kitchen because you can't find any to match where wall was. I remember my dad doing same thing growing up on farm ,only it was a full wall,no opening. Sure made a difference for kitchen space.

The plan is to get some laminate flooring to replace the carpet in the living room and fill the gap with it.

Is that a load bearing wall. Will it be needing a support beam across??

It is load bearing, but we haven't removed any of the support for that. The one 4x4 will stay in place and get wrapped with the new paneling.

My son was shocked to see it didn't have a 2x12 header over the opening when we removed the old paneling. Guess it's OK as this house was built in the late 50s early 60s.

it's never too late to put a header in there...that's so against the new code but hey, it's it's lasted this long...

I was having a crazy idea of putting different stain glass panels in every one of those openings.

use seeded clear glass and foil the joints...that would let the light in and make a nice statement...

Looks good from here also. At my age no two story dwellings. We even had the walkway up to the front steps tapered up to the threshold so no step up to finished floor.
