655 is a truck or industrial engine. Valve covers are truck.
Like Cecil said valve covers are truck. Last 3 on block being 655 will be a 348, 656 will designate a 409. 409 used the same casting number on passenger & truck. A truck block will have 1 compression relief notch in the top of each cylinder. If you remove a valve cover the head should end in 333 to my knowledge. From what I can see in the pic it looks like the flywheel od is larger than the bellhousing flange of the block. Which is why it has that adapter plate. Probably/may have a double disc clutch package. I had this on the back of a truck 409 I purchased. If you get all the clutch & flywheel removed and the back flange of the crank is round it's a 348. If it's "D" shaped you have a 409!
