Still learning the site gentleman please correct me if I’m doing this wrong. So I’ve found an Elgin valve train complete kit is this similar to the L79 ca for the 327. Would this be a good pick for the 283 build and the roller rockers? When buying a gasket set I’m going with the good fel-pro rubber set for the valve Cover gaskets and oil pan. How do I go about choosing a head gasket do I get one to match the head or match the block?

The L79 cam is too big in this application. It will run if the engine is in a light car[Nova] with a 4 speed and at least a 3.70 gear.I've had outstanding performance by using the SMALLEST Howards hyd.roller cam listed for the small block and a set of L30 Vortec heads, and an Edelbrock torque intake. As to head gaskets, don't order anything untill you have the heads off and you've measured thee deck eight of the existing short block assembly.Only then will you be able to determine the needed gasket thickness required to get your needed .034-.040 quench distance.

Going with a 3:73 or 4:10 and 2200-2800 stall
