Hey guys i'd like to thank you all in advance for all the tips......you have answerd all my past questions......this is the best site ever.

My question this time is on water pump pullys i'm looking for the deepest pully for my 409...the pully must almost touch the water pump.... to line up with the 2 grove crank pully. I have a rusted one but it has rust pits and looks like @#$% after i bead plasted it............any one have one for sale out there????? I'm trying to line it up with the inside grove on the crank pully.

Thanks Again!!!!!!!

1st off, do you have a short or long water pump? The long one was only used on 64 & 65 409's,,,,I believe.
2nd, do you want a single or double groove pulley?
I have a brand new in the box single groove pulley for a short water pump.
Would have to go look for part #... If you are interested I will go look....

I went and grabbed my pulleys. The crank pulley is #3766987 (dual, deep groove) Waterpump outter is 3724816. Also a deep groove pulley. I don't see any numbers on the inner pulley. These are the factory pulleys off my 63 409.

I am wondering if you have a large bearing pump, like Dunhamfield said. Does it have any casting numbers? Is it a 3850145? If it doesn't have any #s and its a large bearing pump its probably an old western auto pump. You can try and press the flange back a little. Otherwise you'll either have to find a 64/65 pulley (very tough to find!) or you could get a 63 and earlier water pump. There might be an aftermarket pulley that would work:dunno Best of luck!

More hot air from Fatride.

Ross, don't be afraid to reach for a can of body filler to make that pully look like new! Body filler and two good coats of high build sanding primer will do wonders for that old pitted pully.

Ross is right, going with an earlier water pump may be your best bet because a wide variety of SBC pulleys will work with it. AND the 3850141 pulley is NOT easy to find, nor would a good one be cheap even if you do find one.

I bought a chrome waterpump & crankshaft pulley from truckshop and they said that they would not work on a 409, only older small block chevys.
The waterpump pulley bolted right up and measures identical to the stock 409 pully with th exception that the nose was a little larger in diameter but the same bolt pattern.
The crank pulley required drilling the extra holes to clear the rivits then bolted up just fine..........everything aligns well, its chrome and I didnt pay an arm and a leg for them:deal

Jim, are you wanting a single or double groove part #. I have a 64 with double grooves and it's the same as a Corvette or Z28. The part # is 3770245 and is still available from Chrevrolet.

Jim, Thanks for the ID on the 1958 "348" truck waterpump. I read somewhere that you could interchange small block waterpump internal parts into the 348 housing. ?? Then I would be able to use a regular small block pulley? Thanks again . Stew

Jim, you can still buy the 3921923 from GM for about $40.00. I saw it is used for 68-70's Camaros with a Big Block engine. The 816 pulley is the outer pulley for the two piece water pump pulley on 61-63 409's. (I think) If you have an assembly manual for a 63, it may show the pulley part numbers which came with the engine. I know the 64 manual shows them.

Hi ! I came across awater pump and double row pulley at a car show and it sounds almost like what you are looking for. I just need to I.D. the no.stamped on the pulley - 3739298. Is this identifiable by anyone? I can measure the overall depth or ht of the pump and pulley depth. It also has the large bearing (2") No no. on pump for casting Thanks
