Rare 1954 only valve cover?

Here's a good one. I have a valve cover listed on ebay from a 1950's Chevy 6 cylinder, exact year unknown.

Someone just wrote me and gave me a heads up that it is a 1954 only and rare. Said because the fill hole is in the center.

Any truth in this?

Here's the valve cover:

I've not seen any like that but those funky COE cabs come to mind. That may be a reason for the placement of it.

This came from a 4 door sedan but I suppose the engine could have been changed in 60 years. :D

Bob,might be some truth to that.I owned a 49,50,52 and all 3 cars the fill hole was in the front. Of course they were 216ci,the 1954 is 235ci. John

Didn't the valvecovers up to 53 have 2 center mounted studs to mount the cover? My 53 chev 2 dr sedan and my 48 and 50 chev trucks were like that. Pretty sure my 62 belair was a perimiter style. When was the changeover?

I am looking out the office window at the engine that I took out of my 61 Pontiac and it looks the same as that one. Filler in the middle. Canadian Pontiac's used a 261 six cylinder (Chevy/ GMC) engine.

Remember, It's only rare if 2 people want it. If nobody needs it, it's just scrap metal...

:dunno I could be wrong, but I think this style of cover started in 1954,with the advent of the 235 engine.:?

Hi Bob. I was just surfing on Fee-bay and discovered your odd valve cover on a stock 1961 Chevy Bel-Air 235 ci. Item # 180597565226. So the valve cover is not REALLY rare at all.

:crazy:cheers
