Kentt, A stationary hone spins while the operator slides the big end of the rod onto the hone. Yes, it is important for all engines. It only takes one egg-shaped rod end to spoil your day.

Kentt: Connecting rods need to be resized, to make them round again. After an engine gets alot of miles on it, the big end of the rod, becomes oval shaped. A machinist will first measure the rod. Then he will remove the rod bolts, and grind the rod mating surfaces and cap. This makes the rod diameter smaller, when it's reassembled.
Then he will assemble the rod, usually with new rod bolts. Then the rod is measured again and then material is removed from the inside of the rod, to make it perfectly round, again, along with the correct diameter.:clap
