Tilt column

Are 65 and 66 impala tilts the same???

If you look for a tilt column online you will see 65 and 66 listed together ,saying they are the same. Used , I did it columns. Actually some for sale on e bay tilt or floor shift. Not cheap.

...the 65 and 66 tilt columns are basically the same. The only variables I know would be tilts in impala and lower series would have black knobs on tilt, turn signal, and shifter (if equipped) handles, and caprice would use chrome knobs. Remember, the tilt collars are unique to the tilt columns so you want to get collar with the tilt. The plastic shift indicator in the collar would have a different shift pattern depending if from a powerglide or turbo 400 car. Hope this helps.

Do you need a column shift or floor shift?

Mines a Floor shift. It’s an SS so it came with the buckets and console options.

....forgot to mention.....if floor shift column, of course the collars will have no shift indicator

In a 63 tilt, you need some of the unique lower shaft parts. Not sure about anything to do with the 65-66 columns but if buying used, check this out in a parts or assembly manual.

65 66 tilts are the same and like mentioned above tilt collars are one in their own. 65 collars both upper and lower are metal on 66 upper is metal lower is plastic, guess GM was getting cheap.
