To cut or not to cut?

I have a '64 Biscayne with a 413 stroker four speed and I just installed a Moser 9 inch. I'm running a one piece driveshaft that worked fine with the stock rearend, but the pinion on the 9 inch is about an inch and a half lower than stock. The problem I'm having is this, I can not install the driveshaft because it's hitting the bottom of the tunnel in the frame. The car sits 3 inches higher than stock ride height and I love the stance so I don't want to lower the car even though I know that would fix my problem. Can I cut the frame safely if I box it back in? Open for suggestions. Thanks

To answer your question, "Yes you can". I put a 9in in my '62 and had a one piece driveline made for it. The shop that did the installation cut out the center of the X frame and then cradled a piece of tubed metal to fit the top and bottom of the cut out section of the frame. My car doesn't sit as high as you say yours does but the concept should work for you also.

Good luck
