valve spring oil shield

I dont have the oil shields on my 348 valve springs are they a must or whats the best way. John

if you are using good after market valve stem seals on the intake and exhaust valve stems at the guide, you really don't need them. when your engine was new, chevy's method of oil control was a rubber o-ring between the spring retainer and valve stem along with the shield to keep engine oil away from the valve guide. today's methods are alot better.

Thanks I needed that. Back to the drawing board I am still fighting with oil burning problem.
