Water pump bypass

My Offy Manafold does not have a provision for WP bypass “they” must not think it necessary so I quit worrying about it.

I want to understand this correctly, so what I'm reading is that the small hose that goes from the intake to the top of the water pump, can be blocked off, is not needed??? Does this affect cooling at all?? If this is ok to do, then why did GM do it to begin with?? I'm trying to rationalize this. Thanks, Carmine.

On a heater delete car , with the small hose to water pump blocked off, the thermostat stops all water circulation. The small hose let a small amount of water circulate to stop hot spots and air pockets. I don't think this was a problem on cars with heaters. Cars with heaters still circulated water through heater when thermostat was still shut. A small (1/8-3/16) hole drilled in thermostat will keep coolant moving in a heater delete car if you block the bypass.
