Ive had a search and i found a thread saying that I can remove the hose, it just helps the engine warm up before the stat opens, but i'm sure ive also read you can't

My engine is a 348 with tripower, at the moment, the car will have no heating. The pump is a new ally bodied one. Thanks

Yes, the bypass hose helps the engine warm up faster but it also helps to reduce hot spots and air pockets. If you eliminate it, you will need to drill several 1/8-3/16 holes in the T stat flange.

Thanks all, so ideally keep the pipe? Is there a tidy way of fitting it to the manifold, or is that huge ply in adapter the only way?
