What did you pay for some of your cars?

I always thought that would be me. I built a mini-bike when I was 14. Living in the city at the time, word got around quick that I had "a Motor Vehicle on Public Roads" and beware, lol.

Then I got my car at 15. I only drove it on the neighborhood street, but same thing, don't get caught.

All my tickets came after I got my license, lol.
That’s almost the same as me may have been 13. A friend and I took the plans from mechanics illustrated and built one each. Then sold them and built 2 better ones, heavy spokes, twist grip throttle, etc. 26” English racer frame and pedal box, 20 inch wheels etc etc.

My mini-bike was all home made. A 26 Inch American frame, 20 Inch wheels, cut out the center bar, had 2 plates welded on. A Horizontal Shaft B & S Engine (paid $3 for it and it smoked like a freight train) on the front plate, Jack Shaft and Pillar Boxes on the back plate. Changed around the Gears, Large to the back and Small to the front on the Jack Shaft, centrifugal Belt Clutch to a pulley on the other side of it and away I went, lol.

Oh, and No Brakes.

Never got that far. My main concern was to get it to go, lol.

I thought I would try to bring this thread back as it looked very interesting and I am bored here at work. My first car was a 1969 Datsun wagon. It was turquoise with a black interior and had a 1200 cc 4 cylinder 4 speed. It was given to me from my parents for my 16th birthday. It was formerly the family car. Several months later my best friend bought a 1957 Chevy Belair 4 door sedan 283 powerglide. I think he paid $400.00 for it. It had around 55k original miles on it and it drove like a dream. This was 1976 by the way. Since we had been best friends since freshman year of high school we still hung out all the time. He convinced me I should buy an older car to work on for fun. You know how friends can be. They want you to do what they do it makes them feel better about their decisions. So I started looking around in the paper and buyers guides. I found a 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 for sale several miles away. I think I saw it for sale in someone's yard on my way to work. It was light yellow and white two tone 2 door hardtop. A beautiful car with a 312 auto. The owner wanted $750.00 for it. I only had about $200.00 so I asked my Dad to lend me the $550.00 I needed. Bad idea. Question? Why do you need two cars? Question where are you going to put it? Question? are you crazy? Needless to say his answer was no. Several weeks later I found a 1958 Belair 4 door sedan 283 powerglide for sale in the paper for $150.00. It had 126000 miles on it but ran fine said the seller. So I went to look at it with my friend and I offered the guy $125.00 and he accepted. I drove it home and parked it in front of the house. Of course I was still living with my parents at the time. When my Dad saw it he wouldn't talk to me. That weekend I finally got it started again after many hours of trying. It burned so much oil I think I killed all the mosquitoes in a 1 mile radius. Hint" NEVER BUY A CAR AFTER DARK. So I rebuilt the motor in my dads garage. He let me put it in there because he didn't want the neighbors to complain about the eye sore. Using only a 1958 Chevy shop manual new rings and gaskets I got it running pretty good. My dad still wasn't speaking to me. Of course after I finished the body work he was the first one who asked me to drive it. Go figure. Several months later another friend of mine wrecked my 69 Datsun in a drunken weekend. He drove because I was too drunk to drive. Duh he was drinking too! So my Datsun was junked. That's when I found My first 62. A 1962 Chevy Impala SS 327 white with a red interior 327 powerglide , power steering and brakes factory air car. I paid $600.00. I had money then because I had just gotten a job at a grocery store. I used the 62 as a daily driver and eventually sold the 58 at an auction for $1200.00. So that is how I got interested in 62 Chevys. I have had a dozen or so 62's since then. Getting a better one each time after making a profit on them.
