What Head?

just started a 348 build in my automotive class.I got to tell ya my students are sharp I instructed them to check all casting number on our project motor.low and behold the heads are mixed one was a 333 the other 379 last three on the cast.My question would be would the 333 truck head with larger valves be better to have or the car 379?

congrats on joining cd!!! like you I too am a Ind technology instructor, the 333 heads have SMALLER valves, as well as about a .060 deep combustion chamber.

I like the 333

333 has bigger ports, better air flow. Also has loss of compression because it has a very small combustion chamber as compared to car head which has none. Need to mill a little to get some back. The truck head has an exhaust valve rotator that should be removed for automobile type RPM. Still nothing wrong with the 379 head, just make sure the block and the head have the same plug cooling passage. 1958 block was missing or not drilled for this. Send pictures of the build with specs.
