540 was for the late 60-61 340hp engine.
Is your engine a FJ?I have the 3780540 and the 3012s carb on the 348 in my 56 Chevy I like the look of the period stuff. One day I’ll get to here it run.
Would you consider making a trade for my even rarer intake and carb since you are not trying to keep it as a factory build? It’s exactly the same as what you have other than mine was intended for a super rare 1961 409 Super Sport. (142 ever made). please Let me know. I can provide pics or whatever you needI wish it was, all 58 built with Ross pistons, eagle rods , balanced with a mild cam. 250 hp code. I should be able to start it soon.
What is the date code on your 540?I have this nice 540 that someone opened the front holes so you can run a better carb
What would be the difference between the 540 and a cast 340hp 409 intake ?
Sorry don’t knowWhat is the date code on your 540?
So what was the 579 actually used on? I’ve heard different stories61 409m used the 776 intake, not the 579.
I beg to differ. In spite of all that has been published, the 579 was a 348 intake for the 59-early 60 320 hp engines and the 776 was the 61 409 intake. The 3270 61 carb won't work on the 579 intake due to the throttle bore size. The late 60-61 340 hp intake was the 540. It is identical to the 776 except for the intake throttle bore configuration from 4 hole to 3 hole.
The 579 was the first aluminum intake and was for the 59-60 320 hp engine.
