Gas Pedal

Hi, Just bought a new repro accelerator pedal for the 61, what is the trick to get this thing to stay on the little buttons on the floor,thought about spaying some brake clean on it to lube, anyone installed one before ? in the 62 i just screwed the old one to the floor,and works fine,dont want to do that in this one.
