I’m going through the process of replacing my neutral safety switch, easy enough right? (I bypassed the old one to ensure it was bad and the car started when I did that)
I went to a local Napa store and bought the only option available for my 61 which has a 283 powerglide. Issue I’m having is the old switch compared to the new one are not the same as far as the prong plug ins my old one has the power (straight prongs) to the very left of the switch and the reverse (diagonal prongs more to the middle) the new one is reversed.
I tried to install it thinking maybe the design changed with time but the car would not start. I left the switch loose after to slide it around to see if maybe it was not in “park” on the switch but still no success.
My question is has anyone had to deal with this and if I’m overlooking something or do I need to find the exact replacement? I attached photos to help understand what I’m trying to explain any help would be
appreciated thanks
