1960 Impala: I was able to remove/replace the drivers side inner fender after removing the grill, radiator, support etc. after a motor swap and clutch pivot bkt welded to the frame. Passenger side, probably but unsure. Without access from the front, I doubt it.

They are available so why not use one? The stock 348 4 barrel shield fits the Tri-Power so there should be a bunch out there. They are easy to take off and replace. (After market manifolds, probably a different story) I'm not sure that the 409 uses the same shield but others can say.

Vintage speed solves this problem by recommending the bolt on the either the front or rear carb to be set up with a jam nut so the bolt is loose in the lever, similar to what GM did on their triple by making the hole oblong to allow a small amount of free play.

I added power brakes to my 60 Impala. I used all factory original parts. The carb had a port in the throttle body base that I used for a vacuum source.

FYI: Pan repair bottom. These are about $60.

My valve acts similarly. When you back off the T idle screw, raise the tab on the vacuum valve to its upper limit, hold T blades closed, choke off and adjust the clearance (1/32 inch) between the tab and lower control lever you have put in enough clearance so the valve mechanism and linkage...
