I've swapped a 700R4 into my 58 Impala replacing the TH350 that was in it. Can you run the same starter? Or is a different starter required? What starter ?
OK. So I'm degreeing the cam and it comes up 6 degrees retarded. I have a multi-keyed timing set and stick it in the advanced slot. I netted me 2 degrees. I'm still 4 D-r.
Now what? Step key. Where to find?
Make sure I'm correct here, 2 degrees at the cranks nets 1 degree at the cam.

58, 348 4bbl. +.060" 286-512 solid cam. 9.5:1 Jahns power top pistons. Ran this combo from 82 until 06. The only over heating problem I ever had were from the radiator getting old and soldering up runs. REcored the rad and it runs fine on the hottest days even in line waiting for a show...
I agree with claying up the slug. I was needing to have an idea before I mount the rods. After which I think I would lose the right to return the pistons in exchange for somehing that would work. At least this is shaping up to look as if I have a shot at making what I have work.

I've had a 58 Impala with a 348 for 29 years now. Rebuilt this guy once in 81 and it's time again.
I live in Mid-Michigan, married, two grown kidlets, one with his own project in the works.
What else.....
Ask me.. I'll likely tell ya.
