    1963 Steering column assembly

So I have my steering column apart for some work, the upper portion. Can anyone shed some light on the upper spacer and the adjustment plate with the 3 ramped wedges to take up the play on the collar. I have read the factory repair manual, and it is somewhat helpful put not total clear. The...

No problem with the support bearing fitting in the tunnel.

    Cowl Induction and other things

So what was the original piece made of? I live in AZ. and I have TBI on mine so I can see what the IAT is. On a 100 deg day sitting in traffic my IAT would climb to 135 deg. and above. YIKES! After the install of cowl induction IAT rarely exceeds 115 deg. much better. One issue I did have was...

    Cowl Induction and other things

I thought about it, probably could cut down on the labor if I made a mold and did most of it in fiberglass. Not sure if that would be something anyone would want.

Considering EFI? Holley Sniper so far is problem free.

I find their ignition boxes to be trouble free, but they are based on an old design, so long as they don't cheap out on the electronics part of them should be good. A lot of high end race cars use them so I call that well tested. I have not used the newer 6AL digital type, still beating on the...

    Cowl Induction and other things

Thanks for the complements, I have way more hours in that then I care to admit. But hey, it was fun and I learned a lot doing it. The difference between an amateur and a professional is: the professional has done it way more times than the amateur, and he has gotten all the mistakes out of the...

So with the handheld you can input idle, cruise, and max timing figures. Then it calculates everything in between. I drove the car about 50 miles and down loaded the timing table the computer figured out to my laptop. Using the tuning software I looked at the curve on the programable graph, poor...

Considering EFI? Holley Sniper so far is problem free.

The one area I would recommend using a laptop is the timing. If you use a mag pulse distributor and allow the Sniper to do the timing curve you really need to dial it in with the free software. The self learning program is just not good enough to get it right. But if you use a mechanical/vacuum...

Thanks! If it doesn't work the first time, ........ Well, you probably know. It's been a long battle/challenge.

    Cowl Induction and other things

Here are a couple things I did my way. Cowl Induction was made with 2 pizza pans, parts from an old Chevy truck air cleaner and a lot of fabrication. Both aluminum and steel were used. I also moved the battery to the trunk to give me room for the MSD box, I wanted all the main power items to be...

Considering EFI? Holley Sniper so far is problem free.

I installed a MSD Atomic unit about 4 years ago, drove it many miles, probably 10K or so. Always had problems with it, never could get it sorted out. Talked to the tech hot line guys many times and if I could have reached through the phone and grabbed a couple of them I would have. Anyway, it...

    Valve and compression issue

Well, not much else to do but start from the beginning, otherwise you are just shooting in the dark and trying to hit the problem. The fact you are making contact with valves and pistons will require heads to come back off and be dis-assembled. You will have to check valves and pushrods for...

    Valve and compression issue

After doing the valve train check with the marking ink. Your statement about 'two contact points' is something to re-visit. You are using stock rockers, are they used? Even if new they could be a problem. You may want to check the contact pad on the rocker to see if they are flat. Used rockers...

    Valve and compression issue

Well, I do not have an easy answer to your problem. Need to step back and look at what is known right now. Lifters adjusted correctly, this means the pre-load on the lifter plunger is correct. Without beating this to death, we will assume it is. I hate that word, 'assume'! Given that, what can...

    Valve and compression issue

Old rod 40 I re-read your very first post, first paragraph about pushrods being loose with engine shutdown. This will be normal if you are checking the ones that are NOT opening valves. No oil press will allow lifters to bleed down. Do not tighten these down. I also see you used Show Cars...
