    409 is smoking

Thanks to Phil Reed the pushrod has been replaced and the engine is running again:beerIt seem to like to run better on all eight cylinders.:rolleyes My next move will be to rebuild the stock fuel pump or just replace it with one off the shelve and then get a new gas tank. As far as gas goes the...

    Fuel Pump Rebuild

I tried getting fuel through my 64 Impala fuel pump the other day and got nothing but fuel all over the ground. I think this is a stock pump but not really sure, it has screws all the way around on the top lid of the pump and as AC on the top, the bottom of the pump as two screws. Are these...

Well today was a good day to be a fisherman, First cast and look what I cought.:danceI have been under the weather the last couple of days so I got bored today so I thought I would try to fish that piece of the pushrod out of the motor with my extension magnet. Randy I agree with you on the...

    409 is smoking

My Mother taught me not push my problems on to other people... Just buckle down and deal with it...;) Bill, That's pretty much the plan unless I can't get the broken piece of pushrod out of the motor, and even if I can't get to it with a magnet I might just remove the intake and see if i can...

You would think I would by now..:rolleyes Some people never learn:doh It is..:cussI am either going to try and fish it out with a magnet, but if that doesn't work I will have to take off the intake, and if i am in that far I might as well take off the heads. But if I take the motor out which...

    409 is smoking

Don, What your saying is 100% correct, But I know me, and right now I have very little free time. I work full time, school full time, home work, wife kids etc. I am sure you know the drill. I have been working on my 55 Chevy in my free time and it has both free time and extra money right now. I...

    409 is smoking

Thanks for all the advice, I might give it a try. I am just wondering if I would be better off just going ahead and removing the heads so I can clean all the valve stems and change the all the valve seals, plus then I can inspect the cylinders as well?

The varnish may have been the problem, that new to me but most things are...:) I live and learn more and more as I keep messing with these old cars. I hate the fact I bent the push rod on account of my lack of knowledge. I did know not to run the car off the old tank as It could cause a major...

    409 is smoking

Well I think I found my probelm or at least one of my problems. I Decided to check my compression again since its been running for a while now. Every cylinder checked between 150-175 except #2 it was zero. After trying the oil trick in the cylinder with no luck I pulled off the valve cover and...

I did manage to get it running finally after a few fixes but now I am having an issue I am not sure what is causing it. First the engine runs great...

Good catch, It should have been coil springs. Someone had installed 3ea of those twist in spring spreaders, 2 more spring spreaders and a home maded bracket with all thread rod and jam nuts to also spread the coil springs. I ended up removing all of them...
