how can I tell if the distributor is original to my car? I have 325 hp / 409. The car does not have the original carb. It came with a carter carb. The distributor is to short. I can't get the timing where I need it. It is hitting the intake manifold. how tall was an original distributor?

It started its life as a 340 hp, but somewhere along the way a Carter 3499 S Carb was put on it.

It used to run great now it stumbles and floods when I give it gas. My mechanic buddy looked at it and suggested a new carb or rebuild. I am newbie thank you all for your responses.

either they put the wrong carb on, the wrong sticker on, or this is a replacement... Time to look at the lifters.
