Fitting to run mechanical temperature gauge and dash light

Trying to install a period correct mechanical S-W temperature gauge and still run the factory temp lights in the dash in a 62 409-409. As far as I can tell the temp sender location at the front of the factory 881 2x4 manifold is the only location to install a temperature sensor. Any suggestions to be able to do this or do I have to give up the dash lights in order to run the gauge?

The 881 location you mention is all there is to my knowledge. Gm used some thermostat housings with some npt openings for ported vacuum switches that might allow you to do what you want. 2 problems: 1, finding one that points straight forward like a typical W. 2, it obviously won't appear correct. Maybe someone will have a great idea. I like your idea though.

Either a tapped thermostat housing or drill an tap another hole in the water crossover.

I've used a tee with a heater hose fitting when no extra tapped holes were available. I didn't want to lose the dash lights, either.

Years ago, I believe it was Eckler's LGC, sold a Freeze-Plug with a fitting to install a second Temp. connection.

I used the back expansion plug by the oil filter good location to run wire inside with factory holes in firewall. Purchased a nut the same thread as sender drilled hole and welded to plug.

I also used a tee at the heater hose fitting.

I used a black iron tee and short nipple on my Edelbrock intake.
