I was in the 4th grade at Elk Trail School in southern Oregon, we had two guys that had a pull-out reading class in the library and the rest of us were in our regular class. They came running back to class yelling that Kennedy had been shot, the teacher just about lost it, nobody else knew anything, so she went to the office and got an AM radio, brought it to class, and dialed in the Medford news station, 1440 KMED, and everybody was milling around talking, but nobody there knew anything, either. We tried to get some news for about an hour, but to not much avail, so we went on with our regular lessons for the day. I remember the next school day was a Monday, the 25th, but it was a national day of mourning and school was closed. We had a two day school week that year, Thursday was Thanksgiving, the funeral was that weekend, and lbj was sworn in and we as a nation tried to recover. JFK was an interesting guy, and between castro, the mob, and johnson, it's still hard to say what actually happened, although to this day there are several opinions. There's a YouTube film of Cronkite reading the initial report from Dallas, then all the subsequent footage through the funeral. It was an unbelievable event, that's for sure.
