409 engine blocks

20171002_185225.jpg Hey guys i have a 409 car block i am looking to sell. My question is what should one ask for a good block? I realize condition will affect the price. The block i have has been cleaned and maged. Checked out great with NO cracks. It will need to be bored .040 over. Want your guys opinions on what it is really worth. Here r some pics of the block.

Under $2,000 would be good for seller and not too bad for the buyer. Location will have some twist on price. Local buyer can pick up, others will have to pay shipping. It'll sell in that condition.

I agree with Models. To the right person, a passenger block could be worth more than a truck block.

One can often find a truck block with low miles and little abuse, while the passenger QBs and QAs always seem to be busted up in one form or another (at least in my experience). To me, that makes the passenger block more rare.

I have a spare 656 truck block that has been cleaned and checked, it's standard bore in good condition, and I would ask $2K. Maybe that's why I still have it? If it were a passenger block in the same condition I'm sure it would be worth more. At least, IMHO :).

Best, TomK

What makes a truck block worth more money? I have always heard car blocks are more desirable than the truck blocks.

Depends on your application.....if building a correct car then a passenger block would be more desirable...
if building a hot rod 409 then a truck block works fine.
Am sure that there are more reasons but this is the first one that comes to mind.

Certain passenger blocks are more desirable (e.g., the QB and QA builds that sported the larger port heads) than other passenger blocks, and both are generally more valued than the truck block.

Those in the know realize the potential of the truck block and work around the limitations when choosing pistons, etc.

I'd say a standard bore 1962 "068" casting passenger block would command the higher price, assuming equal condition over a truck block from that year (same for the "814", "422" and "656" passenger block castings ).

Anybody have a good 656 car block without any issues with a jb suffix code I believe is for a 340hp 4 speed for this kind of money willing to ship to washington state?

All the fitted blocks I've seen were 656. Only saw one that was 814......it was a 400 425HP SHORT BLOCK ASSY. that came out of a Rainbow bread truck right here in KC in a salvage yard!!!! I had a friend find it so he brought it immediately to the shop. He left the block with me and I gave him my large port Algon fuel injection setup!!!!!!! He paid $325 for the short block!!!!

I saw a fitted truck block back in the late 70s at a dealership on Lemmon Ave in Dallas. Cast pistons and wanted too much for it even back then.
