Wrong casting number for Nova.
I believe the 810 wasa Tonawanda casting.

Last 283 I bought was about 5 years ago and the guy that had it used it for mock up purposes only and it had a chrome oil pan, timing cover, edelbrock intake along with a Holley 600, paid 50$ for it. Put it on my test stand ran like a top so I stuffed it in a 65 impala and sold the running driving car last March. I know that's a 1 in a million shot at finding that deal again.

Even though it seems like every SBC is advertised as a Corvette engine, unless its stamping id's it as a high horse Corvette engine I can't imagine it being very valuable unless as Don said its a good runner.

The most value would be to a person looking to restore a '65 that originally had a 283, especially if the Date Codes fit. An engine that runs good and not needing rebuilding would bring an even better price. The '65 283/220 is a rare engine.

The 283 and the 327 from a Nova had a different block casting than the Impala,Chevelle,Corvette and truck engines. The oil filter was of the screw on replaceable type rather than the canister filter with the replaceable element. Also, the mounting surface was raised so that the filter sat higher and out of the way of the clutch linkage. It also seems that the 327 and the 283 had th same block casting number. If that's the case, the 283 would have some very thick cylinder walls and could easily take a 4" bore size. It would be neat to sonic test a 283 Nova original block and compare it to a small journal 327 version of that same block. I know of a 283 super stock engine that started life as a 327 250 horse engine and got 8 sleeves to turn it into a very stiff 283 casting. The only difference between the 283 195 horse 2 barrel and the 22o horse was the intake and the carburetor. Heads, cam, short block, every thing else was the same except the intake and the carburetor.
