Yes, Saturday night at Green Valley Raceway in Ft.Worth you could go and watch 8 Funny cars race for a whopping $3- $5000.00 and it would be standing room only. I watched Richard Tharp in the Blue Max then owned by Harry Schmidt make a run and then he drove it back to the pits, parked it, whacked it once and shut it off.

Years ago,45?, I pulled a 348 out of a truck like that. C80. Would have made a long day driving that load with a 348.
Then they started putting underpowered Detroit's in them. If noise was horsepower they would have had plenty.
A Detroit had plenty in their very NARROW power band, they made great marine diesels as they were happy running WFO. All those trucks that had Detroits in them had a 13 speed road ranger trans with a 2 speed axle, the driver had Popeye Arm from shifting.

I never did use the 348 yet. I have a 61 c60 I could put it in. Back in the core engine pile. Thought it would be a 409 coming out of c80 car hauler so I was disappointed when I checked the numbers.
Seems like 1600 to 2100.
