Yes, Saturday night at Green Valley Raceway in Ft.Worth you could go and watch 8 Funny cars race for a whopping $3- $5000.00 and it would be standing room only. I watched Richard Tharp in the Blue Max then owned by Harry Schmidt make a run and then he drove it back to the pits, parked it, whacked it once and shut it off.

Then they started putting underpowered Detroit's in them. If noise was horsepower they would have had plenty.
A Detroit had plenty in their very NARROW power band, they made great marine diesels as they were happy running WFO. All those trucks that had Detroits in them had a 13 speed road ranger trans with a 2 speed axle, the driver had Popeye Arm from shifting.
