Update.

For block itself, got the dreaded call from Carl yesterday that 5 cyls had previously been bored and when they looked closer at the 6th, it had a crack, 5 inches!!! Talked to Joe who we bought it from and truly believe him when he says he had no idea and instantly offered and is sending a replacement block thats 30* over. He's shipping that tues and Carl will do the swap and fingers crossed, all ends well. Bob W is shipping out his crank, rods, and Heads which we bought and are on the way to Carl too...

On the truck itself, worked through some checklist items the last couple days. Mechanical Speedo cable didnt work at first and Don jumped online with me and watched/helped me figure out the issue and all set. We put a jack under the rear, fired her up and walla, speedo movement!! Wiring, all new wiring harness in from American Autowire. Now, I have to say the kit has easy instructions, but HATE the connectors. Some of them are so hard to seat I've clipped and put my own on. Good example, wiper motor, those female connector ends with the kit are too small and will simply not fit on the wiper motor, lots of those examples. When Don was online, everything worked, when Avery got home from work if did for a moment, then didnt. :bang:bang:bang.. The tail lights stay on sometimes, backup lights work sometimes and only on the rear harness do we see the issue so will try to track down the issue in a bit...

Onward and will post pics tonight...

Progress today was fixing someone's bs rust fix! We pulled out the welder to take care.of the fuel door since we relocated the tank to the back of the bed. Took care of that, but decided to do some digging under the drivers side footwell. You could see.two rivit heads underneath and after peeling back some tar, there was flashing covering a 6inch hole.. Flashing, yes, the stuff just a hair thicker than aluminum foil, that stuff. Guess the previous guy had a roofing business, ha.

We cut that out and put some heavy duty sheet metal in its place. Not pretty, don't have fancy breaks, cutters, shaping tools but its better, we did it, and will clean it up a bit more and call it done. Also noticed the rocker for 3 inches was a mess, cut that out and the same, welded in New piece, ground clean and put a skim coat...

Some more progress today topped by a nighttime drive with avery at 1 degree!!

We ground our welds, seam sealed everything properly and sprayed some undercoat. On the inside we seam sealed also and covered the floor with more sound deadner and made a HUGE difference! We now have two layers and really takes the drum sound effect away almost completely.

Gas gauge and washer pump not working, but everything else is great! Heater kicked ass, was sooooo cold outside but toasty in the truck, Speedo perfect, inside lights, highs lows, wipers, cutrosy lights all work.

Small list left then the nervous wait...

Quick update!!

Replacement block on the way to Carls place, BIG THANKS TO JOE!! and should hit friday.. Bob W too just emailed and our crank and rods are on the way to Carl and said we should have the heads there super shortly.. On the truck itself, checklist getting real small. Avery and have these things were chipping away at so long as we dont freeze our butts off. Fuel gauge, rear tail lights staying on, going to replace the wood in the back but may extend the tubs while were at it. Other than that, we may be close to having a real runner!!

More updates soon!..

Yes,Mike,Kurt's going to use a Show cars adapter. He ordered it just a few minutes ago after we looked up the dist.number that was sent.F.A.S.T. doesn't market a W specific dist.

Hi!

Great call out and glad you did. I didn't realize until you asked that we needed a sleeve and ordered it today! Thanks for saving us time on the back end. Here's the distributor and the sleeve we have on the way!

Kurt

Hi Everyone!! Just talked to Carl and getting closer and couldnt be happier he's on it.

He's being real picky on the piston spec and has "failed" everything to this point and working directly with the manufacturer to get a single piston with our spec in hand as soon as the end of the week. If it passes his requirements, then he can green light the build of the remaining 7 and were that much closer to seeing new life from a 409!!! Kinda cool that this community, all you guys, Carl, have a single focus, to make thing the RIGHT way and not just WORK, if you know what i mean!

Skip, that dist.won't allow us to control the timing as part of the fuel injection set up.This is why that high dollar dist.and adapter are necessary. With todays fuels,we need to be able to control timing better.Kurt drives these cars on a nearly daily basis.
