Exact Rear End Width

Hey everyone.

Anyone have a rear end that they can easily measure wheel mounting surface to mounting surface?

I keep finding different numbers and want to verify that it's actually 60". I have a hard time believing everything I read on the internet!

I currently do not have one and can't measure myself so any help would be appreciated.

without looking it up,I think for 61 to 64 (and maybe 58 to 60) the 60" is from flange to flange on the rear end housing( the flange where the backing plates bolt to the housing on both sides).

Here is a discussion on widths from this forum with the Chevy widths(55 to 64 is 60" on the chart)
and a chart 9" ford widths.

Went out to the garage and measured my old one, 60".

That was outside of drum brakes correct?

The measurement you want is " Drum to Drum" or wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface.

I think the threads have a little ambiguity, when measuring for wheel back space and whether or not another type of third member is going to fit you must have the above, otherwise you could be out by 6 inches. if I get a chance I will pull my wheels off and do a measurement.

You cannot rely on track measurements as wheel offsets change also.
