Hayden Proffitt's Z11 (a tribute)

I first removed the side moldings and replaced them with a set of NOS mouldings that I had stored. Then we started installing the windows and interior.

I located a complete Z-11 engine that was for sale and purchased it with the help from Bryan Fugate and it was delivered to Ga.

Even though we haven’t completely finished the engine to the point of cranking it we had an opportunity to show the car for the first time and have 5he car inducted into the Southeastern Drag Racers Hall of Fame in Alabama. We went and enjoyed the weekend with fellow racers.

Congratulations on your acquisition….. the car is looking stunning, did you locate an actual QM block……?
What pieces are left to locate……..?

The block had been milled so I’m going to attempt to raise the stamping with an acid solution. The block was drilled for 4 bolt main caps yet the motor hasn’t been into since early 80’s. The only lightweight component needed is the lower grille panel. The fenders on the car are the Hayden Proffitt fenders from the original car I’ve been told.

For what it's worth! I had a customer that I machined a 265 SBC to go into a 55/56 he was doing a total on in the early 90's when guys were building cars and flipping for profit. I set the block up in the Bridgeport and cut the VIN pad only just past the front edge of the head down enough to "erase" the numbers PER the customers request. When the car was done he took it to the Mo HP headquarters to get it certified (or whatever) so he could get a good title. A state trooper called me and asked if I made note of the numbers I cut off. I said no and told him what the customer said. He informed me that I had committed a class D felony. I saw the customer shortly after and asked him how that came out. He said the HP heated the vin pad with a torch and the numbers became visible.

Is the casting date inline for a Z car?
