We make staples out of stainless wire and a pair of pliers that is the correct width. Hold a piece of wire in the jaws, bend the ends on the sides of the plier jaws. They look and hold great.

I use the big T-50 staples and re-use the old holes in the skirt. They go in easily and can be rolled over on the ends like original with needle nose pliers.

I thought about trying that but I wasn't sure if the staples that I had were rust proof....
