There are a couple rubber seals that seal the rear main cap to the block, those can cause a problem also.
I am trying to find someone to help me with it. I’ve never done engine work so this might be my big learning curve lol.

Hey nc pop, I didn’t know who was calling me. I’vehad 3 dental surgeries since sept. 22 and have about killed me. I’ve been in bed most of the time. I’ve lost a lot of my strength. I remember when I bought my 63 ss in 1973. When I checked my oil, the dipstick had 409 ss stamped on it. Does anyone remember having this stamped on a dipstick on your car? James jones
