In Pasadena, the Casler Tire Co had a big recap cheater slick available until the mid '70's or so. They were made off of the biggest tire available, usually a 9.00 or a 9.50 X 14 or 15 inch tire like Lincolns or Cadillacs took. The Bucrons were built in compliance with rules mandating a 7 inch wide tire regardless of wear. The way to get them to work was with 9 pounds of air or less. Ever lift at 100 or so miles an hour with tires with only 9 pounds in them?

Back in the day, there was a place on Old Webberville Road in Austin, Tx the sold used Bucrons for $5.00 to $10.00. Never purchase a new one, but got 2 for the rear every month or so. Kept 2 mounted in my trunk til I got to the track.
