Radiator Question 63 409

Did all 63 409 radiators have the slanted top tank or were some flat across the top? Just wondering when the 62 flat top tank transitioned to the slanted top tank.

62 radiators where flat tops with 2 hex head bolt impressions stamped into the top of the radiator.
to my knowledge 63 409 radiators were slanted tops - someone else can confirm

I wish the 63s were repopped like the 62 radiators. they sure are hard to find now.

Paul.....I remembering that 62 and 63 tops were the same, 64 and 65 were both different. Am I remembering this wrong???

Show Cars has the 63 radiator, I don't know if it is a slant top, they will know.

Thanks I was going to give them a call I think at one time they did. Now they list 1 radiator as 61 thru 63.

I bought a radiator for my 62 from Hubbard's a couple of years ago and it has a slight (maybe 1/4") downward slope.

Thats interesting I dont know how slanted its supposed to be but you can really see it well I will look into that as well I've bought from Hubbards before

This is what I bought from Phil Reed many moons ago for my 63 impala SS restoration which I still haven’t installed, 1963 3-core Harrison radiator for a 409. 4-core radiators were used on cars with air-conditioning.

My 63 409 has a radiator like the picture r63ss posted and it came with a 3 core and i never had any cooling problems when i drove it as a daily driver back in the 60s had a lot of drive train problems mostly self-inflected but as i said no heating problems
