Unfortunately, the headers and the frame location preclude taking a picture inside to see if the bolt is broken off inside the shaft daft

Good news, I was able to stick the inside of my pen into the recess, and I can feel the threads. So I just need a bolt and washer. Luckily the bolt didn't break off the shaft

That's definitely the original VIN because the spot welds are still intact. The B code indicates that it was built at Baltimore, but the cowl tag date code is way off because the VIN sequence number indicates that the car was built in 2nd week April 62. It also means that the cowl tag body number BA 2778 is way too low for a car built at Baltimore in the 2nd week April 62. The actual Impala sport coupe that had the cowl tag body number BA 2778 was built in the 2nd week of October 61.

Has anyone got an alternator adjustment arm? My chrome one is cracked. I will also be putting on a "correct" alternator. This ones face is cast for a plastic fan16336141927667342414686252548382.jpg

Here's my cracked alternator bracket, on my Chris Craft 409 in my '62 Impala. I don't like the head spacer, and hardware store bolts. Tacky IMO. And I'd prefer a clutch fan, but they're all failure prone Taiwan junk

Here's what's on my '63 Biscayne, no better than the Chris Craft arm. At least it has old skool remote regulator lol. And arm should mount AHEAD of the alternator!

That alternator appears to be mounted too far forward for some reason.

The alternator is not too far forward, it has to be there to match the rear groove in the water pump and crankshaft pulleys -just checked
both of my 62 409s were I switched to a factory 62 alternator and checked my 62 factory air 327 with factory alternator on factory air 62's.

The alternator bracket has to be curved similar to the one on your 62 that is broken to use an alternator.

I have 3 GM curved alternator brackets (they are marked for 63 factory alternator cars (that is what they came off of)

Here is the correct alternator bracket for a 409 with a alternator (63 is first year for alternator on a 409) -it is about 1 & 1/2 inches longer than a factory small block alternator bracket from 1963.

https://show-cars.com/product/1429

Here are correct factory style brackets to add an alternator to a 348 or to a 62 409
https://show-cars.com/product/5977

other brackets will work to mount an alternator on a 409 I am just showing the factory ones
