bench seat repair

The only way to repair this so it will last is to start at the beginning.I do this for a living and have done so for 25 years. My guess is that your side support springs are broken as this is a typical problem. Unbolt your seat and remove it from your car. Flip your seat over on a work table or sawhorses.Check springs to see which ones are broken. If they are broke youwill need to disassemble the seat backs from the bottom and then remove the bottom seat cover from its frame. Use a diagonal pliers or sidecutter to remove the hog rings. Take the cover off carefully so you dont rip it. Remove the padding and save it even if its bad. Remove the burlap hog rings and you should be down to the springs and frame. At this point it should be clear what the problems are. You should at this point talk to an upholsterer to try to obtain springs and the possibly needed burlap, foam, cotton batting, hog rings and the special clips needed to attatch the springs to the edgewire to keep them in place. If you cant find springs through him you could try aftermarket suppliers like CARS Inc.,Year One,Harmons or Classic Industries.
Another option is to find another bench seat out of a parts car, disassemble it, and use the ones from the passenger side as they are not usually worn out or broke. After that ,just reverse the whole process. The seat cover will go on a lot easier if you can warm it up somehow ie.sunlight, heat gun. Sounds simple right, well maybe not but, it can be done. Any questions, reply back and l'ii try to help.
