I have this nos shift lever for which I believe is for a 63 console car but is 5/8 th thick verse my 2 63 4 speed cars which are 1/2 " thick, question is can this be put on my stock t10 shifters or do I need a whole other shifter? Did these come on assembly line cars and what is this worth as I don't know if I got burned when I bought it? Thanks in advance20190915_083027.jpg20190915_083031.jpg20190915_083254.jpg20190915_083101.jpg

Thanks Phil but why is it so much thicker than my other 2 ? Are my smaller ones wrong for both of my 63's?

Well.....there were some large shaft shifters that some said "they were for Z-11's". No proof that I have seen. This one for a SS....
WHO KNOWS??????

Tommy, is it possible that the 409 cars didn't get the Muncie since the muncie on corvette and sb cars had the small input bearing retainer or did they introduce them in both sizes? I don't have a 63 assy manual to check.

Tommy. Cecil....I bought 2 cars years ago....red/red 63 SS. 300HP 4-speed and another 63 SS 425HP blue/blue. Both cars were built in Feb. Believe the red 63 was a St. Louis car.
Both had original Muncies and had the original VIN stamps. Only Muncie cars I remember.

According to Colvin's CBTN, the first muncies went to Baltimore in early Feb 63 and the Corvettes didn't get them until sometime in March. All documentation suggests pass cars except 409's got the small front bearing transmissions both T-10 and Muncie yet the 409 cars still used the large bearing bellhousings so something doesn't compute. Either the muncie was built with both small (for Corvette, Chevy II, Pass except 409 ) and large bearing cases for the 409 cars or some compromise was made on the 409 cars to use the small bearing muncie and small bore bell housing. Contrary to that theory is that supposedly the 63 Muncie only used the 704 main case which was small bearing. No other case is shown for 63 Muncie except for possibly an orphan late 63 (August which would be 64 production) 606 case which was large bearing like the later 64 325 case.
Does anybody have a documented original 63 409 car with factory installed Muncie and would they please check the casting number on the main case and the bell housing?
Maybe Verne has already solved this part of the puzzle.
