Been many years since I was on this forum. Curious to know if there has been research done and if an assembled list of known and missing Z-11 cars, their VIN numbers , colors, original dealer and possibly original purchasers was ever done? Where do I find such a list if one exists?

Thank you Skip. It’s been probably 20 plus years. Time has gone by as other interest took over. I’ve have and collected 409s since I was 15 years old. That nearly 50 years ago. When I read a Popular Hot Rodding or Super Chevy ( been too long to remember for sure ) of a black Sport Belair sponsored by Maranatha Chevrolet (?) in the L.A. area. Well that’s all it took to light a fire within. I acquired a stable of cars and other vehicles that were 409 powered that I’ll share later.

I’m hoping to find the information I’ve requested. Seems there was once a list compiled and possibly discussed or shared on this forum ages ago. I’m hoping some one has access to it.

Thank you for looking. Is he still active on the forums? Is there a way to PM members?
Yes he is still on here every now and then. You can click on his name that I have posted, it will have a box that will say start a conversation. That should get you started.

Hey every one. Thank so very much with the help. That’s exactly what I was looking for.

There was a mention that someone was writing a book on the Z-11s in one of the linked threads. Did that ever get done? If it was, what is the title and where can I get a copy?

Wondering if there is any update to that list that was posted 7 years ago.

Sure is interesting stuff.
There are many of us using what little time and resources we have to track down any image, note, video, paper clipping, marketing ad with just about anything related to the Z11. I think I have poured through nearly a million images from the Peterson Auto Museum to find any images of Fiala's Z11. I found a few of his other cars but I still have a long way to go. Contacted a number of old racers that would have gone head to head with Fiala or any Z11 of the era and there just haven't been many leads. I never report back to those who have the most knowledge unless I am 100% sure I have useful information because there is so much bad information floating around. I'm just a younger worker bee trying to be helpful where I can and learn as much as I can. Welcome back 409kid!

I’m having the same problem trying to locate any unpublished photos of my racing endeavors back in the 70s-80s. I rarely had the time or the inclination to take pics at the track and never learned the art of using a real camera. The idea of digital pics, smart phones with cameras, Go Pros and all the other technology has made capturing moments so much simpler.

There was a professional photographer out here in CA by the name of Ron Burch. I have a few pics of my ‘62 Sport Belair in action but none of my 409 powered A/Altered that I restored or my ‘61 Sport Impala. Well he fell onto hard times and apparently sold his life’s photography to an unknown buyer. I’d like to get all the pics Ron took of my cars but for all intents and purposes that ship has sailed. I have but very few pics of the Belair trackside, one of the Impala before I owned it trackside and a few at he house and less of the altered during its restoration.

Of course back in the day the Z-11s and other cars of great interest today were just race cars back then. To be raced on Sunday, discarded for the next model, sold off, thrashed further, wrecked , scrapped, with parts scattered to the wind or lost entirely waiting to be rediscovered. Luckily a few examples remain intact to be coveted by some very fortunate individuals. Some of the cars appear to be well documented because of the drivers attached to them, feature articles, event coverage, Track or National records obtained. Other cars and drivers with less distinguished careers are more obscured.

Given that these cars sole purpose was to promote the brand it’s amazing that any one of them has managed to survive today. Once they reached obsolescence these car had no value. Certainly at that time no one gave any thought these cars would ever be worth a plug nickel

The following is by no means claimed to be totally accurate, many cars status is unknown. In fact I would love input by anyone who may have documented information. For a while I was trying to document as much of this information but some people say they are planning to do a publication documenting the Z11s. My problem is at this point in life I can't wait a whole lot longer and would like to see as much documentation out in the public forum as can be put together but know one wants to talk! LOL. What you see below was initially put together by Rusty and I have modified it as I have come across additional information. Also, I don't know whose car Dennis' parts are taken from.
