I have stock rear ends in my street driven 62's. I have one 327/300HP 4speed 62 Hardtop, one 62 SS Hardtop 409 - 500 HP & 4 speed with stock rear end with dual upper control arms(
in fact all my 62's have dual upper control arms), girdles on my posi's from Aubrey B. , and I do not run slicks. I have not replaced the axles but I have plenty of used originals _I will replace the axles if I have problems. I also have billet carrier bearing on stock driveshafts. I also just finished a 450 HP 62 SS 409 convertible with a Richmond 5 speed, dual upper control arms and girdles on the posi rear end, and the billet carrier bearing on a stock driveshaft.
I can smoke the radials on the 500 HP 409 4 speed Hardtop
and I do -I have 2500 miles on it since it was built....no rear end problems.
I considered 9 inch Ford and Mosher rear ends but the cost is easily over $3000 to do it correctly (not doing it myself), so I did not spend those $ and did the improvements noted above since I am not drag racing normally. I have drag raced the 500 HP 409 but I drive it to not break rear ends--for example I do not side step the clutch or drop the clutch pedal - I do it how I drag raced years ago and did not break rear ends.
I am considering doing a drag racing car
- If I can build one, the rear end
will be a 9" ford or Mosher rear end with dual upper control arms and
