hello everyone,
i am finishing a frame off restoration on a 1965 impala ss, i built a 496 big block with 650 hp at the flywheel. i have a m-20 4 speed that i was going to put in it and i also have a super t-10 with a nodular iron case that i can rebuild as well. i was hoping that some of you out there can give me some insight on what will hold up to that much hp.
thanks a bunch for any help
also for your 409 guys here is a good webpage, my neighbor is building new 409 blocks and heads

ngale65, Welcome to this site. Im not sure your neighbor was ready to make that web-site public yet, but the cat is out of the bag now. Your neighbor knows much about high horse-power applications. I can think of noone better to advise you on transmissions. :)

Thanks for the link. We knew those heads were coming. It looks like they should be available soon.:beerbang

The Super T-10 would be stronger than the Muncie. My guess is that it's about 20% stronger.:dunno I think either 4 speed would be fine if you're carefull but I think you could easily break either one with the kind of power you've got. If you can fit it into your budget, a Tremec TKO 5 speed is quite a bit stronger than either of the 4 speeds. It's also bigger so it might require modifications to the cars floor. http://www.keislerauto.com/gm/transmissions/index.html
