When you install the headlamp bulb into the cadmium plated "bowl", you will see that there is a locating tab on the bulb itself that has to match up to a depression on the "bowl". Then you attach the outer stainless steel ring with the 2 screws. Next, you will install each headlight into the adjuster screws, and using a needle nose plier, pull the spring toward the stainless steel ring, and insert the end of the spring into the hole that is located on the lower side of the stainless ring. The R is for the right side (passenger side) and the 1 indicates that is the high beam bulb and is placed on the inside (closest to the center of the car). You will note that there is a notch in the "bowl" where the retaining spring goes, so you will need to make sure that you match up the stainless steel bulb retaining ring to the correct bulb "bowl". Please refer to the picture posted below. Note that the bulb locating tab is just to the right of the retaining hole in the stainless steel band. All 4 of the retainers are different, as well as all 4 of the "bowls", and it is important to get them installed correctly, or your headlamps will not be correct when they are installed in the headlamp assembly.
