Hi all and thanks for the help on this car.
I traveled from North Carolina to Phoenix and finally got to see my friend Gene’s ‘63 Impala SS yesterday. It’s a real beauty! Gene is working to get on board to this forum, so until he’s able to post, I’m posting on his behalf And relaying what I...
Jacked rear wheels off ground today and counted driveshaft turns per wheel turn. Looks like car has 4:11 gears. Looks like a new pumpkin. Didn’t I read that GM only put 3:36 gears in these cars? Was a 4:11 gear ratio an option?
Thanks, 64ss409. I had forgotten how to decipher the build date coding
Our 1962 - the car belongs to someone else, therefore, I don’t think I can show VIN to public. Why do you ask? Perhaps I can address your question/concern another way?
Been a while so I forget-where can I find the car’s build date and assy date? I know B is for Baltimore but not familiar with other plant codes
Thanks.
Will do on engine compartment pic(s). Car is a couple thousand miles from me but should be able to get a couple pics ahead of me actually seeing the car.
One more question - would power brakes, power steering, radio, etc not show as option codes on the trim tag?
Thx guys.
Engine has been decked, so VIN check is not possible. It shows a 409 now. Will be looking at alternator, starter, carbs, etc to try and confirm engine’s originality.
Can someone help with the option codes as shown on trim tag?
Thx again.
Hi all. As planned, I had the master cylinder completely rebuilt, re-sleeved and had the original cap re-plated. The cap was pitted and it was plated over the pitting It's original though. I had it plated, knowing that a pretty new reproduction one can be had if desired
I've attached some...
Thanks for the advice. When you say “alternator pulley and it looks yellow or gold plated”, I assume you mean zinc dichromate plated, much like power brake boosters and later master cylinder caps. Maybe?
My follow up question - are the fan AND the pulley both plated? I haven’t disassembled...
Hi all!
The fan and pulley on my '63 Alternator #1100628 is currently painted black. I suspect this is not what came from the factory. Might I be able to get definitive advice as to what finish should be on a restored alternator?
Appreciatively,
Don
Thanks all!
Based on the good information provided here, I’ll not be installing the BRAKE warning light switch. Doing this looks to be a departure from the “base” in base model and inconsistent with what the car would have had on day 1.
Thanks much!
There's a BRAKE light in with all the other idiot lights in the dash. What I don't see is a bracket or a switch on the ebrake pedal setup. BOth the switch and the bracket are available on line.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Biscayne didn't come with this light. I say this because I...
Good morning all. Might someone here know whether or not my 1963 Biscayne 409 came from the factory with a switch to tell the EMERGENCY BRAKE when to come on? I see the part numbers for the bracket and for the switch itself. I don't see either one of these parts when I look at the ebrake...
