I finaly got off my butt and started to change my old impala over to disc brakes. their are plenty of kits on the market problem i'm having is what dust schields can I use. I cant seem to find any. Any Ideas? Bugs

I did one many years ago. what i did was take the 12 bolt out of a 70 wagon cut the ends off cause the wagon used bigger bearings & took the ends off an old 10 bolt and used a set of chevy II 12 bolt axles that way i could use the drums and hardware. Bugs

Hey Don did ya get it apart yet? Its been 24hrs.

I have a set of those heads on a 454 in my wifes chevelle. the only differance is i used pistons with .100 domes.

my opinion which is my opinion is to get the 67 -69 heads w/ rockers they should be a closed chambered easier to get the compression up even with a flat top piston.

Thats the same thing i heard. I put the rear out of the 66 I had and put in the 65 i have and the tires are dead center in the wheel house.

Bob, I was always told that 64 - 65 were narrower but i thought the 66-67 were narrower than the 68 - 72s to does anyone know how much wider? I swapped 12bolts out of a 65 and a 66 with no issues.

If the rear is out of a chevelle (which is identified by two ears on top of the center section) it will fit great. I have used them under one like yours as well as my 64 Impala. Bugsy

Don remember sometimes you need a small base circle camshaft too for rod clearance. this is the same combination that we ran except we had 64cc heads when you had the black nova and Bruce was running the camaro. it was good for mid 10s.

did you brake the keepers lose with a brass hammer before you tried to remove them. as for your springs its hard to tell what they are with out testing & and measuring them

big blocks came with guide plates but you need to find out what diameter push rods and get the correct plates. Don came by this morning to help me find those 12 to 1 pistons and i couldn't find them but i'm still looken. i'll be out there again tomorrow

tomorrow i'll get out to the garage and i'll check those pistons. Don i'll let you know if they are open or closed chambered.
