    My First 409 Build

Vintage Musclecars in Ohio did the carbs. Great quality work.

    My First 409 Build

Thanks guys. Sorry about the empty Sunoco fuel drum I use to paint small items and the trailer in the background. Ordered another $332.00 worth of correct fuel line assemblies, carb linkage and manifold egr from Showcars today to complete. The customer had to send the Mooneyes dual quad filter...

    My First 409 Build

Thanks! Installing it into a customers 63 Impala SS clone, 4-speed. I'm removing the small block then the car goes off to the paint shop. This guy spares no expense, new chrome, interior, etc. I'll post pics of the car when I get it to the shop for installation.

No Oil to RH lifters when Priming the pump

Wow. I just had the same exact problem, and whomever installed the cam bearings on the #5 didn't seem to think it was very important to use the correct cam bearing or to install it correctly. Ask me how I know....lol

    My First 409 Build

Well, after correcting the push rod holes in the Eddy Heads, correcting the cam bearing issue, it's getting close. I'm waiting a few parts (valve cover bolts) to come in, but go ahead and critique away. 1963 X Block.

    409 Edelbrock Head Pushrod Clearance

From what I can see yours look much better. I see you're running Edelbrock rockers, interesting. Haven't seen those before. Do you have a flat tappet or roller cam?

    409 oil feed problems....

The scary this is when people who claim to build engines ask "How did you figure out there was no oil to the passenger side rockers?"

    409 oil feed problems....

It's pretty obvious the previous builder had no clue....

    409 Edelbrock Head Pushrod Clearance

Took it upon more great advice from folks here regarding the push rod clearance regarding the Edelbrock heads. Sure enough, they were too close for comfort so I had my machine shop go back and provide clearance on both the intake and exhaust push rod holes. I'll post pics when I get the engine...

    409 oil feed problems....

Glad I followed through with disassembling the engine, although it was painful after everything else was going so well. Sure enough, someone installed the #5 cam bearing incorrectly, 1 hole completely blocked off, 1 hole partially blocked and 1 hole lined up at 6 o'clock.

    409 oil feed problems....

I actually built a 496 BBC stroker for this same customers 70 SS Chevelle, after he went through hell and $$$ with two previous engine builders. Brodix block and heads, nice equipment. It was knocking profusely. Upon disassembly, I noticed the previous "Expert Engine Builder" installed the Scat...

    409 oil feed problems....

Ain't that the truth. I actually had someone ask me how I figured it out without running the engine. Like I said, a lot of folks just assemble and hope for the best. lol.

    409 oil feed problems....

Thanks Jim. It was dry, and that makes sense to me that the cam bearing is wrong. When we went and picked up the engine, it had the short block already built with new bearings. However I found many issues, such as the piston valve reliefs were all over the place and incorrect, main bearings were...

    409 oil feed problems....

Thanks everybody. Dam, this sucks but my first 409. However it's got to be done right for the customer. Thank you so much for the help. I'm going to try to play with the oil pump primer and see if that is the issue first. I've heard of people mentioning to pull up a little on the primer as some...

    409 oil feed problems....

I'm having the same issue now. I looked up this post. I have the primer from ShowCars for a 409 and cannot get oil to the passenger side rockers. I have turned the engine over while operating my electric drill and still dry as a bone on the passenger side. My machine shop installed the cam...
