Is there a difference between the distributor shaft used for 409 and other Chevy big blocks? I borrowed a prime tool from a friend and the shaft on my 09 distributor has a bigger diameter than than the tool. Just wondering.

Forgot to mention it has a hyd cam with Scorpion rocker arms. Not sure of the specs for the cam, as I purchased the car with this engine rebuilt with no run time. Was told the cam had a mild performance grind.
Still working on my valve spring replacement. 63 409 425 hp..found a broken valve spring, doing some checking and the o/d of the springs in the head is 1.550 in...does any one know what the o/d of the springs the are for the stock big port heads is?
It does not seem to make a difference. I think the fork must have the downward force must be evenly distributed on the retainer to keep it centered on the valve stem to be able to insert both of the keepers.
Well started to replace the valve springs in my 63 409..Purchased the push down valve compressor with the handle as it seemed like the easiest to use. Screwed the tool on the rocker stud, but when I compress the spring it moves the spring retainer off center making it impossible the drop both...

I have noticed that a few vendors seem to be making a few bucks on shipping. They charge the posted UPS charges and I must believe that they get the ship station prices for shipping.
Maybe it a small point, but vendors should try to keep costs down.
