    Rebuilding my 348

Thanks, guys! Just a quick "thank you" to all of you. What great info! As a clarifier, we want it to be a good driver. We are not going to race her. But it would be nice to have a slight lope when she idles and enough power to scare us once in awhile. I see no need to go beyond 500 to 550...

    Rebuilding my 348

My son and I just disassembled our 348 (originally out of a '61 Impala). It is an unmolested motor...never been bored. We want to turn it into a 409 with a stroker kit with a slight overbore and build it up to a moderate race engine with the new Hilborn fuel injection system. We will be...

Looking for Machine Shop in NW

Does anyone know of a good machine shop in the NW (I live in the Seatlle area) that has experience with "W" blocks? My son and I have a 348 block (original bore) and want to have it hot tanked, magnafluxed, bored, and decked. I don't know if I can trust a shop that mostly does small block...

    Help with rebuild

Hilborn I sent them an email about a week ago and they responded they plan to have a system for the 409 available "next year". However, I have been advised by others on this site not to hold my breath.

    Help with rebuild

Hi guys, I'm fairly new to this post and many of you have been very gracious in your welcome. Thank you! I have rebuilt motors before, but never modified them beyond stock. My son and I have a complete 348 car engine. After we rebuild her, we want to have a high performance 409...

    I just bought a 348

Picture Here's a pic of our 348. I will put it next to our future "409" pic someday!

    I just bought a 348

Ravensdale Yes. It was the one in Ravensdale. Ironically, and unbelievably, I live in Ravensdale and have been searching for a 348 for months all over the western U.S. And here it was in my backyard! You must have been one of the half dozen guys who called about it. I thought the "T" in...

    I just bought a 348

Thanks! Thanks, guys. Clearly, there a A LOT to learn before we start the rebuild. Our goal is to make a '60s era highboy using a 1930 Model A coupe body. My son grew up singing "409" from the Beach Boys (I'm an older dad) and we love the "W" engine. (I was a tour pilot back in the '70s and...

    I just bought a 348

Hi everyone, I just bought a complete 348 engine. It appears original, with a 4 barrel. I think it was made in July of 1959. My son and I are going to build a street rod and wealways wanted a 409 but too much $! Can I stroke and bore the engine close to a 409?

Hi Guys, My 9 year old son and I just inherited a stock 1930 Model A coupe. It runs and has a fairly straight body but is not restored. We plan to turn it into a street rod. I am currently putting a budget together and looking at all options, including buying a completed rolling chassis...

    Value of 348?

Three stump puller? Not sure what a three stump puller is? I was planning to put a 409 crank in it and bore it, if necessary if there is still room. Will it not accept a 409 crank? I will go to the earlier threads to make sure I am not asking questions that have already been answered...

    Value of 348?

    Value of 348?

Thanks wow....it seems I have much to learn here. Ideally, I would like an old 409 that is as original as possible to rebuild. Any ideas where to start and how much I should pay? I don't know if the guy will take the time to get me the numbers (the engine is several hundred miles away). But...

    Value of 348?

I found a complete 348 that has been in a shed for several years. The guy wants $500 for it. I realize it could have issues (cracked block, etc.) but it seems to be worth the price to find out. I want to rebuild it and turn it into a 409 for my Model A nostalgic street rod. Is it worth $500?
