Carl, thanks for all of the interesting data on the cowl tags. Did some plants use an A for white conv. top and B for a blk conv top. as opposed to T-10 and T-2?? Also, I can send you two additional tags for 63 conv, one from Framingham, the other from Tarrytown, and a 64 4Dr Impala with the large complete Broadcast Sheet, if you want them?? Mike

I joined lGC in 1986, which was also the year that I took on my very first restoration. A 1962 SS conv. Coronna Cream, gold interior,283 v8 , all numbers matching. Thought I would have the resto completed for the 1988 convention in Tarrytown. Nope, didn’t finish it until 1990. Still have every mag issue from 1980 to 2006. The restoration turned out better then expected and the car was featured in the June 1990 lGC magazine. Also won top ten award at Super Chevy Show at Maple Grove Raceway in 1990. It was also featured for their interior display in CARS catalog for 1990. Late Greats was a fun club, didn’t know so many guys on the site were members of that great club. So now that Jim Sullivan and I have completed my final restoration on my 62 Bubble Top, thanks for listening to my story, and I am sticking to it.

I record everything about cowl tags that I can, including 63's and 64's so if you post photos I'd love to see them, especially a convertible built at Tarrytown, I've never seen a cowl tag for a convertible from Tarrytown. I also love seeing broadcast sheets.

Regarding your top color question, Lansing didn't use a code for top color and no plant used A or B for top color, but in 1960/61 some plants used A, B and C to denote the engine the car would get because Fisher fitted the engine badges.

Carl, the 63 conv that I said was a Tarrytown build, was not. It was very dirty so after cleaning this is what I found: 03B, FR 8508. 815-T-02. 936. ACC—B70M20Z03.. So I assume that no convertibles were built at Tarrytown?

Thanks for those. Tarrytown didn't build convertible bodies, but they did complete convertibles (mate body to chassis and drivetrain) that were built at Cleveland Fisher plant. Cleveland cowl tags in 61/62 included a code on them for the Chevrolet plant (Atlanta, Baltimore, Flint or Tarrytown) that was going to complete the car.

FR 8568 is an ermine white SS convertible built 2nd week March 63 at Framingham with black bucket seats, black top, padded dash and 4-speed.

FR 16630 is an ermine white convertible built 4th week June 63 at Framingham with red bench seat interior, black top and padded dash.

BW 9465 is a silver blue sport sedan (with black wheels) built 2nd week February 64 at Willmington with blue interior and Body Run Number 544 shows it had a few options (hard to make out), and was a 6 cylinder car.

Carl,
You might find this one interesting. It's from a junkyard 63 Impala that I stripped for parts years ago.
Atlanta Car, ACC codes EX 2CKMY 3Z A

Thanks, the codes are for tinted glass, power windows, padded deash, AC, powerglide, rear seat speaker and it was a Super Sport. I've never seen an A code at the end of Group 3, do you have a photo?

Carl,
No photo, sorry. The car is long gone. I can tell you it was a small block car with factory cruise control. So, maybe that's the Group 3 A. I've never seen another to compare. Definitely interesting. I'm surprised Chevy had a code for a rear seat speaker. Familiar with the codes for several of the options you mentioned. Do you know what the EX indicates? Thanks for all your research!

EX is for two group one codes, E is tinted glass and X is power windows. Cruise control was dealer fitted option, so no code on the cowl tag. Rear seat speaker was fitted by Fisher because they fitted the seats in the body before it went to Chevrolet for mating to a chassis and drive train, so it got a code.

Carl,

Here is the tag from my SL build convertible. Interesting to see how each plant used different codes for the top color.
Thanks for that, a roman red convertible built 1st week June 62 at St Louis with red bench seat interior and a white top. There were four different color tops available for convertibles in 62, white, black, beige or blue. Some Fisher plants used words or abbreviations for top color like St Louis and Van Nuys, some plants used numbers for top color like Framingham on the ACC line and Cleveland and Janesville on the trim line, and Lansing didn't use any code at all for convertible top color in 62.
