guess what this is?

This belongs to a friend of mine. He bought the car in the 60s and has raced it ever since. Started out with a 331 Olds engine and now has a BBC. He moved to Hudson Florida a few years back. Fastest ride I've been in...high 8s. Can you guess the year and make? The pics are from Byron Dragway few years ago.

I agree with rstreet. Its a Studebaker - the style is a "Hawk".

The local MD, in my neighbourhood, was an older gentleman and used to make housecalls back then. My memory of this is when I was ± 7 years old. So.... at first glance...the body style is close to what I remember...I'm guessing 1963-1965. Sorry..can't zero-in without looking it up. I'll take a stab at 1965.

My first favorite car was the 1959 Corvette. Only saw those in magazines...back then...but when I got to see the Studebaker Hawk -up close...it was one sharp looking machine and it is still at the top of my "Classic Sport Car list" today. :beerbang

BTW. Two very nice 64' Impala convertibles in your life's car inventory?? :bow Man...sometimes I wish I really held out for an early Impala convertible.

Maybe someday....

That is a 53, 54 or 55 studebaker comander, if it had the V8 and a Champian if it had the straight 6, coupe. If I could see the grill I could tell if it were a 53, 54 or 55.
53 had the bar with the turn signal on the end in the center of the gill and 54 had the ege crate grill both two pice grills and 55 had the one piece grill. I have had three 53 all hardtops. Dan

What Tripower said. 53 - 55 Studebaker Coupe - This body style was continued through at least 57, but the 56 and 57 front clip was quite different, and 57s had bolt on fins.

I stand corrected...

....the last two, cars on the list below, however, do have somewhat similar rear fenders/trunk line. That's how I thought model's photo was a Hawk. Guess it would helped to see the grill.

Anyways..some pics of Commanders and Hawks. Wish I had some interior pics..

The correct answer is?

1953 Studebaker Commander Starlight Coupe. I think it is still a good looking car today. Must have caused a stir in 1953.

models916, Thanks for posting that baker. The 1953 Studebaker was designed by Raymond Loewy and is recognized as one of the most beautiful production vehicles ever produced. If you want to know more check out this web site. www.raymondloewy.com... Dan

One that got away

Yes, this was my 70 SS 454 that got away from me. Sort of wish I still had it.
