just a fool

....... no real car guy would bash any engine or car out of the 50's or 60's.... they all deserve respect ......... I mean there are car guys out there that restore & love even Ramblers and even Metropolitans ....... (smile) ....... and I still give the car & the guy the respect deserved.

........ maybe he forgot to take his med's.

In 1963, I had a stock 1963 Chevy Impala SS, with 250 HP 327 cu in. I beat a stock Chrysler 383 w/2 fours two out of three times through the 1/4 mile. The car belonged to a doctor, and he thought it would be a cake walk. Now that was sweet. I won a lot of races with that car. It just seem to be an over-achiever.

I'm thinking maybe his older brother tied him to a chair when he was young and played "She's real fine my 409, She's real fine my 4 0 9" the whole day everyday for a week.

either that or his older brother locked him in the trunk of a real 409 and did alot of hole-shots & short stops along with alot of 0-60-0 test runs.

what song did they make for the HEMI??

Mopar stories and fact

Back in 1999 I went to a Mopar meet in my home town of Seattle. I ran into a guy with a clean 1962 413 Savoy. I complimented him on his car and said these cars along with 406 Fords,421 Pontiacs and 409 Chevy's created the Muscle car era. His response was no 409 could touch one of these 413 Mopars back in the day as the big mouth sat in his lounge chair. I begged to differ I told him, and mentioned the Winternationals, US nationals etc where 409's won. There were some 413 Dodges and Plymouths that made it tough time to time for a well tuned 409 such as with Strickler and the Ramchargers at Vineland NJ 1962 and a meet in South Bend Indiana when the Ramchargers did it again to Strickler and Dick Brannans hot Ford 406. The 3-speed manual 413's didn' have a chance against the well tuned fourspeed 409's though Tom Grove in the Melrose Missle did run a 11:93 at fremont with one in '62. Anyhow I told the big mouth with the 413 Plymouth who claimed his car ran low 12's all day long to challenge my buddies well tuned stock '62 409 Biscayne. He told me maybe and the day of our vintage drags my buddy showed up with his 409, with the typical NHRA rules (.60 over, forged true piston set up) and was running 12 teens. Big mouth with his 413 Plymouth never got off the trailer!!! I told him what gives??? Prove your point that you can lunch an '09 right now!! Big mouth told me the push buttons for the automatic were not functioning right!! Go figure and everybody, including Mopar guys never spoke to him again. I credited the guy with the '62 406 that pulled to the line against my buddies '09, even though he was shut down 3 straight the crowd went wild!! The 406 Galaxie pulled high 12's and the guy was a true sportsman in my book and respected all makes back in '62 and '63. As far the that Chrysler 300 moron author, there were plenty of instances where the Z-11 427,piloted by great names made The Mopar camps miserable in 1963. Mopar administration protested the Z-11's and 427 Fords at the 1963 Pomona Winternationals not to run in S/S after what happened in qualifying when Hayden 's Z-11 along with Sanders were outright slaughtering them left and right running in the very low 12's & 11's. At the US nationals all the 426 Mopars got wiped out in AFX by Durham, Strickler, Sox etc. The best of the best Mopars such as Tommy Grove and Bud Faubel fell to both Strickler and Ronnie Sox during eliminations. At the Detroit drags it was different, due to "Stock rules" were not enforced and hence Mopars cleaned house though Z-11's were running right in the same times!!! Sorry for the long story though had to give my 2 cents, regards.

I don't believe the push button's in his head were functioning right either! He opened his big mouth. He should have backed it up. Skip

Punishment

I wish a match race could be arranged with this moron. Both cars from the 348/409 era. As a punishment, when he got beat, he would have to write 409 times on the blackboard "she's real fine my 409." As for the Beach Boys not being able to find words that rime with 413, how about this "413's are so slow they won't hardly go" or "my413's a dog and ugly as a hog"

I sense a "match race" on the horizon. Man I always loved Sat. night grudge races. Let me know where this one will be held:roll

Real life story:

Late 80's, in Edmonton, there was a friendly rivalry between the major makes and their owners. We never really "street raced". There were plenty of places, away from everything, in the middle of no where, that we could fool around.
This is about "Simon's" 69 Road Runner, built 440, right converter, right gears, good chassis setup, on slicks. In the circle of enthusiasts in that area, this car was regarded as the fastest "stock" type car on the street. At the end of that "season" in 1989, he and I finally paired off.
I was running my old 61 Biscayne, re-ringed single 4bbl 409, 4 speed, 4.88's, 29" X 11" GoodYears's.
About 30 people showed up to watch ( about midnight ).
Water on the pavement, heat the tires.... the whole bit.
I took him by half a length on the launch... and through the run, gained about another car length ( went to about 112 MPH... a 1/4 mile).
BRUTAL race... still to this day, the best race I've ever had:cheers

No, Dick, long gone... sold in early 1991.
As a matter of fact, it qualifies as the first sacrifice, of the never-ending LIST of sacrifices, which have been made in the relentless hope of having something positive with my 62 BelAir:doh .

I saw a familiar name on that list.....A. (August) Hartkoph. He was a regular at the dragstrips in central and south Texas. Strange looking dude like a Neanderthal....He had a huge head and long arms with giant hands....they called him "Hands" Hartkoph. In 61 he was running a 56 Chev 2 door sedan with a screamin' 265......don't remember what class but that thing sounded like 10,000rpm and waxed everybody. Really looked funny with this big guy behind the steering wheel with his big head hittin the roof and huge hands on the wheel and shifter.....Pretty intimidating. There was a story going around back then that he had been protested and torn down many times but they always pulled just one head and it was always the same side. One guy got suspicious and demanded the other head be pulled on the protest and found that bank had been bored. How would you balance something like that?:scratch
Don't know if it was true but made for a good story.:D
