Thought i had answered Don, guess i forgot to post....no, the bubble top was bought with Bel Air trim missing and holes filled so car was repainted, Biscayne emblems added and 409 installed...tried to buy it, but i was not able to come up with enough $$

I swear this car fights me every which way....NOW, i have a oil press problem that i would rather have input here than on facebook; realizing that it could be a number of things, just wondering if you all might have some input. OK, upon hard acceleration, my oil press drops from 60psi to about 35psi at about 6000 rpm.....and letting off and clutching psi returns to 55-60 psi. I don't know if this has been ongoing or if it just started. This is a mechanical gauge.. Soooo, oil pick-up to high...oil run back from heads not quick enough....faulty gauge ...etc...sitting at idle, warm engine 35psi @ 900 rpm, then racing engine psi jumps up to 50-55 lbs. acting normally. Engine sounds fine and would like to keep it that way. Any thoughts please and thanks. Have been running Lucas hotrod oil 10w30 this winter

Cut open the oil filter. Don't use a hacksaw . Use something to poke hole and using tin snips to avoid metal cuttings. Pull filter apart and inspect for metal. This will tell if engine has a problem or not with any bearings.Maybe should change oil anyway if it's ready.

thought about adding a autometer electric gauge to compare to the mechanical one and have already checked oil filter which showed no foreign material., and put in 5w30 oil and it lowered oil press by about 5 lbs. but gauge response was the same

yes, it is a high volume pump and i have wondered about that.....also the main oil galleys have been drilled larger (per Rob Walden), oil pump p.u. is welded and about 3/4 to 1' from pan bottom. the oil gauge is a older sunpro and is t'd off the oil pick up hole above the oil filter and still hooked to the factory oil press light so i am thinking of changing idiot light sender with a electrical gauge sender at the same location.....but in my mind, don't think it will make a difference. with a light i could see the oil p.u. screen when i drained the oil and swiped a magnetic probe...everything looked clean.......engine start up cold is ALWAYS 80 psi and i take it easy till warmed up..
